Love classic country? Check out Country Hayride, the radio show packed full of vintage records from old-time, hillbilly, folk, Nashville sound, western swing, outlaw, red dirt, Bakersfield and more. Crispy Cowboy, of the East Lonesome Drifters, explores the foundations of country and Western music every fortnight on NTS Radio – you can expect tracks from artists old and new, with entertaining and factual commentary thrown in! Glitter, shimmer and cowgirl boots: Inside the World Dance Masters line dance championship
The World Dance Masters (WDM) Line Dance Championships is one of the most highly anticipated events in the calendar year – a competitive and social event celebrating the talents of dancers around the world. This year, 22 countries were represented at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens over the three-day event – and there were a LOT of cowgirl boots on show! City Cowgirl caught up with event organiser Nicola Lafferty, instructors and award-winning dancers Gary O’ Reilly and Ronnie DeBenedetta, and Reuben and Rachel from Ballroom Bling, to find out what it’s all about. If you’re a fan of modern country music, check out Nash Nights UK, bringing the Nashville nightclub scene to the UK 🤠. Journey Home describe themselves as "a British rock band with Country and Southern Rock sprinkled on top". Intrigued? The musicians from Oxford, UK, are a multi-award nominated band, who pride themselves on their ability to get any crowd on their feet, as they've done to date at some of the biggest country festivals in Britain. Lead singer Jonesy and guitar player Ben talked to City Cowgirl about how the band began, and what they think of the British Country music scene at the moment. Angels With Dirty Faces – a seven-piece country band
The Angels with dirty faces are a seven-piece British country band we'll be keeping our eye on... The musicians, who's debut single 'Shatter Like Glass' reached number 4 on the iTunes charts, say they are influenced by acts such as The Band, Lynrd Skynrd, Zac Brown, Restless Heart and Little Big Town amongst others. It's not about Nashville - it's about GlasVille!
GlasVille, originally a tribute to the music from the TV show ‘Nashville’, are now releasing their own original material, starting with their debut single ‘One Time Thing’. The band have toured the UK three times, performing to over 8,000 people across the UK, whilst receiving acclaim from Hayden Panettiere & Chris Carmack in the process. The voice you can't miss: Izzie Walsh
With her hauntingly powerful vocals, you can't miss Izzie Walsh, the 'Take Me Back' singer-songwriter from Manchester. Along with her Americana band, Izzy has performed around the country. I caught them at their latest gig at The Slaughtered Lamb in London, where Izzie told us about how her band has developed their sound by putting a 'modern twist' on the traditional roots of a range of genres including country, bluegrass and rock.
New UK country festival: Black Deer Press Launch
The brand-new Black Deer Festival will take place between 22nd and 24th June 2018 this year, promising to be an authentic celebration of the culture behind americana and country music. Over three days, festival-goers will get access to five stages of live music, authentic smokehouse cooking and even attend workshops to find out what it takes to become a master whiskey blender... There will also be a marketplace full of authentic leather ware, denim, homewares, tools, original printed art, quality textiles such as blankets & throws. This is an event for people of all ages, by themselves or as a family – there's a dedicated area for young attendees to climb trees, play instruments and get involved in creative workshops and talks! City Cowgirl attended the press launch at Bolt this week, where guests were treated to a taster of what's to come, with music from The Wandering Hearts and Stu Larsen.

Meet Square One, the self described 'whiskey fuelled' southern rock band from the south west of England.
